I arrived at school on Wednesday at around 7:30 A.M. which was late since we were told to come at 7:15 A.M. The buses (3) didn't arrive until 8 A.M. or so. I jumped on the third bus along with Jackson and Lim. The bus ride was around three hours. When my sister went last year, they stopped at McDonalds on the way there and back, but this time, we weren't allowed to take the pit stop. The first thing we saw of the Great Aussie Bush Camp (Tea Gardens) was The Rock which is a miniature version of Ayers Rock. We were allocated our tents. Mine was tent 1.8 with Jess T, Jess N, Jody, Trish, Mylee and Angeline. The tents were very gross looking and I was told it stunk (luckily I had a blocked nose). We were then told to get our mess kits (thanks to Mylee for organising them for us) because we were going to have lunch.
After lunch, my group, group one had a Crossroads session first. All the other groups were saying 'har har' but I was thankful that we could get it out of the way on the first day. After that, we had morning tea which was snow cones. Our next activity was the GIANT swing. It was the scariest thing I've ever done. Never been off the ground for so high. Then, we had dinner and shower time. The females from our school decided to occupy both the female and male toilets since there were no males around.
At around 8 P.M. we had commando. I paired up with Jackson and Lim and we came up with this brilliant plan until Lim parted from us with Thao. Jackson and I ran off and got caught by Ms Hammet and we had to give her our life token and were told to turn back. Somehow we ran away from her and ended up not having to go back. It was getting VERY dark and there wasn't anyone around us so I started to get very scared. Jackson wouldn't turn the torch on and we soon hit a dead end. Then he came up with the brilliant idea of climbing through the thick bushes. My answer was a NO. We turned back and got caught another five or six times until we gave up and started helping the teachers bust people. Everyone had to come back at around 9:30 P.M. and had supper. After supper we were told to go to bed. For some reason we weren't told to go to sleep until 11-11:30 P.M. while the boys were made to go to bed at 10:30 P.M. My tent had 'truth' where we asked questions to everyone which was VERY interesting until I knocked off half an hour into it because of my massive headache.
The next day we woke up at 6 A.M. and had to get to breakfast by 6:30. Our first activity was canoeing which was so boring. We had to swap canoes at some point and I ended up in Yang's canoe. Most of the time I was arguing with him because he pissed me of with his brilliance. After canoeing was alpine rescue which was great. I volunteered to be the person in the stretcher. The aim of the activity was to carry me through this obstacle course where you had to travel on logs and if you fell off the logs or dropped the stretcher, you get points deducted. We were doing fine until we got to the flying fox where we had to wait for the other group to get through it. It started pouring on us and I was drenched to the point where I had dirt in my undies. All the boys carrying me were great until it was our turn at the flying fox. Everyone left besides David and Angeline because it was literally pouring by then. So this is how I decided to split the million dollar reward for rescuing me- $200 000 each for David and Angeline, $400 000 split between Nasser, Omar, Johnny, Khoa and Abass and $200 000 split between the other eight people.
Since it rained, our trip to the beach was cancelled. That was disappointing because we were actually allowed to swim at the beach and everyone was looking forward to it. I also heard it was the BEST part of my sister's camp. Instead, we had battle of the sexes. The females were winning until the last battle where four girls and four guys had to drink raw eggs. Girls finished first besides Ricknam so the boys scored the fifty points and beat us by thirty-five points.
After that, we were told to go have showers and prepare for dinner and after dinner, the disco. The disco was alright. Some people looked horrible when they danced. One girl was dirty dancing a lot and the boys all wanted to dance with her but I don't think she dirty danced that well. Some even started trying to pole dance which didn't work out that well either. At least they gave it a shot and weren't to embarrassed. (?)
We had to go to sleep at 10:30 P.M. that night and everyone in my tent fell asleep one by one. Mylee and I stayed up talking until 1 A.M. until she fell asleep on me so I decided to let her sleep. I was beginning to drift off to sleep until I heard Jody say are you serious so I replied Hello? but there was no reply. I concluded that she was sleep talking.
Woke up at 6 A.M. the next day to get ready for breakfast at 6:30 A.M. once again. After breakfast we had to pack and take our luggage into the storage container and clean out our tents. Most of the girls were waiting in that hexagon shaped hut and some of us started dancing to the stereo which was pretty cool.
The only activity we had that day was rock climbing which kind of sucked. After that we had lunch and placed our luggage into the bus. We said our goodbyes and thank-you to the camp staff and the teachers. Some of us received camp awards! I received a 'patient patient's award' for the alpine rescue.
Natalie, on of the camp staff jumped onto our bus and hid. I guess she loved us heaps. When we got to the exit, most of them were sitting on the fence and waved at us. The teachers then realised that Natalie was on our bus and we stopped to let her out. She was such a sweetie- everyone LOVED her.
Arrived home at 2:50 P.M. from a long three hour bus ride home. I slept most of the way on Sung which was probably uncomfortable for him. Thanks Sung!
I miss camp and I want to go back there. It was such a good time away from home, tutor and studying but I missed mmm.
